English School, c. 1790. Water color on ivory portrait of a child. The 1/2 length portrait depicts a young child with auburn hair and brown eyes in 3/4 pose, wearing a white dress with bright blue sash, and a hat with matching blue feathers. Cream silk backing to the reverse. Gold case. Oval, 4 1/2 cms. X 4 cms. (1 3/4 inches X 1 1/2 inches). Very good condition.

Continental School. Early 19th Century watercolor on ivory portrait of an officer. The officer, depicted in 1/2 pose, is depicted wear a blue coatee with red facings, silver epaulettes and aiguillete, white shoulder belt with silver belt plate, chemise and black stock. Beneath his right arm he carries a silver helmet decorated with a black feather. Gilt brass frame. Oval, 8 cms. X 6 1/2 cms. (3 1/4 inches X 2 1/2 inches). Excellent condition.
