Thomas James Mulvaney (RHA, 1779 -1845). Five members of the Henley family and a portrait of Rev. Thomas Corcoran (c.1820). Watercolour on card. All in matching carved giltwood frames with plaques to the obverse, identifying the artist and sitter.

Portrait of a gentleman with dark curling hair, a beard, and blue eyes, wearing a white shirt with brown jabot, black patterned waistcoat with white buttons, and a charcoal coat. He wears a gilt stick pin in the jabot, and 2 gold rings on his right right hand. The background is trees and bright blue sky. Rectangular, 39 cms. X 30 cms. (15 inches X 11 inches).

American primitive school. Oil on canvas. An amazing historic document in the form of a portrait of an African-American share-cropper. The 19th Century portrait, which is in very good condition, was quite incredibly found in a barn in Maine. The portrait depicts a woman, standing by a cabin, in a vividly painted landscape, reminescent of Western North Carolina, with crops, a cabin, mountains, and a sunset beyond. The watercolor on paper miniature depicts Samuel Harrison wearing the blue coatee with gold epaulette and gold-braid trimmed of the Commissariat Corps. The watercolour portrait depicts a little boy with fair curling hair and blue eyes, wearing a blue suit with large white frilled collars, in his left hand, a top hat, beyond a landscape. Verre eglomise slip within turned and ebonized frame. Signed twice on the frame to the reverse, “Buxton Pinxt.” Oval, 7 cms. X 5 cms. (2 ½ inches X 2 inches). Miniature very good condition. Frame good condition.
