Jean Andre Rouquet (1701 – 1758)
Portrait of a gentleman, c. 1730. The portrait depicts the powdered and bewigged gentleman, wearing a yellow embroidered waist coat, and white stock, under a brown coat. Portrait set in 9K gold case, surrounded by foil-backed paste stones. Glazed reverse set with cream fabric. Oval, 6 cms. X 4 cms. (2 ¼ inches x 1 7/8 inches).
Excellent condition.

The watercolor on paper miniature depicts Samuel Harrison wearing the blue coatee with gold epaulette and gold-braid trimmed of the Commissariat Corps. This lovely, totally original watercolour portrait by the Australian miniaturist, Ada Whiting depicts a very pretty young woman in a head-and-shoulders, full-face pose.
