James Warren Childe (c.1778-1862), Portrait of Samuel Harrison of the Royal Commissariat Corps. The watercolor on paper miniature depicts Samuel Harrison wearing the blue coatee with gold epaulette and gold-braid trimmed of the Commissariat Corps. Signed and dated to the obverse, “JW Childe”/1817. Inscribed to reverse “S Harrison June/Born Nov 21st 1795/Died Octr.8th.1817 at Grenada. In gilded original frame. Rectangular, 4 3/4 x 3 ½ in.

The watercolour portrait depicts a little boy with fair curling hair and blue eyes, wearing a blue suit with large white frilled collars, in his left hand, a top hat, beyond a landscape. Verre eglomise slip within turned and ebonized frame. Signed twice on the frame to the reverse, “Buxton Pinxt.” Oval, 7 cms. X 5 cms. (2 ½ inches X 2 inches). Miniature very good condition. Frame good condition.

The watercolour on ivory miniature depicts the officer in a bright red coatee with green facings, an epaulette, white shoulder belt, and brass belt plate. Continental School. Early 19th Century watercolor on ivory portrait of an officer. The officer, depicted in 1/2 pose, is depicted wear a blue coatee with red facings, silver epaulettes and aiguillete, white shoulder belt with silver belt plate, chemise and black stock. Beneath his right arm he carries a silver helmet decorated with a black feather. Gilt brass frame. Oval, 8 cms. X 6 1/2 cms. (3 1/4 inches X 2 1/2 inches). Excellent condition.
