The boy, with blue eyes and auburn hair worn in curls, is wearing a blue frock coat, white waistcoat, collar, and striped red and white cravat. Scottish School, watercolour on ivory, portrait miniature of a child with a dog, attributed to William Douglas (1780-1832). The rectangular, half-length, portrait depicts a child wearing a violet-coloured dress with gold shoulder straps, playing with a dog. Stone background with sunset landscape in the distance. Gilt-metal frame with velvet reverse. 10 cms. X 8 cms. (4 inches X 3 1/4 inches). Excellent condition and a lovely subject.

The oval miniature, contained within a gilt-metal pendant frame, encloses a head-and-shoulders portrait of a handsome young woman with powdered hair and large brown eyes, facing slightly to the left, against a dark background.
