| French School, late 18th Century (c. 1790), water color on ivory portrait miniature of Caroline d'Abbaye. The oval miniature, contained within a gilt-metal pendant frame, encloses a head-and-shoulders portrait of a handsome young woman with powdered hair and large brown eyes, facing slightly to the left, against a dark background. She wears a laced blue dress which is adorned with pearls, and a white stole over her shoulders. 5 cms. diameter (2 inches). Very good condition. It is believed that Caroline d'Abbaye was the daughter of an artist called Joseph Fleuri. | |||||||
