| Scottish School, watercolour on ivory, portrait miniature of a child with a dog, attributed to William Douglas (1780-1832). The rectangular, half-length, portrait depicts a child wearing a violet-coloured dress with gold shoulder straps, playing with a dog. Stone background with sunset landscape in the distance. Gilt-metal frame with velvet reverse. 10 cms. X 8 cms. (4 inches X 3 1/4 inches). Excellent condition and a lovely subject. William Douglas was born in Fife on the 14 April 1780. He exhibited at Edinburgh in 1808 and 1809, and at the Royal Academy, London, from 1818 until 1826. | |||||||||
