| Portrait of a young officer by the Irish miniaturist Frederick Buck. The watercolour on ivory miniature depicts the officer in a bright red coatee with green facings, an epaulette, white shoulder belt, and brass belt plate. Brass frame, the reverse with woven hair back behind gold initials, "R * C". Oval, 6 1/2 cms. X 5 cms. (3 inches X 2 1/4 inches). Good condition. This portrait exemplifies the work of Frederick Buck, who is know for his skilled painting of Red Coat soldiers. Frederick Buck was born in Cork, Ireland in 1771. Examples of his work are represented in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and many private collections around the world. | ||||||||
