| Portrait of John Stuart. English School, c. 1840. The half-length watercolour portrait of John Stuart depicts the young officer with brown eyes and fair hair, wearing a red coatee with gold epaulettes, brass buttons, and a white waist belt with brass buckle. Sky background. Inscribed to the reverse, “John Stuart born------/died 1845/The Hon. Andrew Godfrey Stuart/and Sofia ----- /and/nephew of Robert/2nd Earl of Castle Stuart”. Brass slip, contained within travel case. Rectangular, 9 cms X 7 cms. (3 ½ inches X 2 ¾ inches). Good condition. | ||||||||
