| The Broughton Family. English School, c. 1800. A framed portrait miniature grouping of the Broughton Family. Seven portrait miniatures mounted and framed behind gilt card, in a period gold leaf gesso frame. The portrait miniatures consist of: Lady Broughten (centre); Jerenna (lower left); Captain Broughten (lower right); Daughter/Died 16 (center left of Lady Broughton); Grandma W ?? /Daughter (centre right of Lady Broughton); daughter/died 17 (upper left); Sir Thomas Broughton (upper right). All portrait miniatures, are between 4 cms. and 5 1/2 cms. diameter (1 3/4 inches and 2 1/2 inches). Frame, rectangular, 39 cms. X 41 cms. (14 1/2 inches X 16 inches). The portraits of Lady Broughton and Jerenna are on ivory, the rest are on card. All portraits are in good to very good condition. The frame has some missing gilt embellishment consistent with its age. Overall, quite an attractive piece and interesting because of the family connection. Sir Thomas Broughton was 6th Baronet from 1749– 1813. He was the second son of Sir Brian Broughton-Delves, 4th Baronet, and his wife Mary (née Forrester), and was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford. In 1766 he succeeded in the baronetcy on the death of his childless elder brother and the same year he reverted to the surname of Broughton in lieu of Broughton-Delves. | ||||||||||||||
